Project News Morgantown High School Sports Facilities UpgradedMetroNews SportsMorgantown, WVAfter years of use, Morgantown High School’s football facilities are getting a much-needed facelift. Project Chairman Tim Saab said that the renovations have been broken up into two phases and Phase I, which will replace the outdated home stands, insert new lighting and build new concessions and restroom facilities should be finished before the start of the football season. “Getting this first phase started is an important part of getting the whole project completed. This first phase is going to cost about $2.1 million,” Saab said, who also mentioned that private donations from donors have helped tremendously. “We had a committee that got together and some of them had a background in construction,” added Campaign committee member Denver Allen. “They kind of said ‘This is where I think this should go and this is where I think this should go.’” The football stadium will also receive a new field. The current surface is thought to be at least 10 years old and has been subject to heavy use. “It [the field surface] wasn’t designed to take four football teams, four soccer teams, four lacrosse teams and two bands. It was not designed for that 24/7 traffic,” Saab mentioned. Phase II of the project will concentrate on building a two-story multi-purpose facility that will expand the usable space available for both men’s and women’s sports. “When the two-story multi-purpose facility is done, there will be locker rooms for men’s and women’s soccer, lacrosse, football and weight room and a large gathering room that they can have classes in,” Saab said. Currently, Phase II is in fundraising mode and Saab says he hopes the project will have enough money by the end of the year. RELATED PHOTOS:
