Facilities Outline

Morgantown High School (MHS) is a central point of the greater-Monongalia County community and has been a historic institution of tradition since 1883, and since 1927 at its current campus. For over eighty years, Pony Lewis Field has hosted high school, middle school, midget league, and semi-professional football in the County.

Today, MHS hails to over 21 varsity sports (more than any other WV school), which all depend on Pony Lewis Field, the weight room, concession areas, and the surrounding facilities. MHS’s tremendous success over the past century has resulted in unparalleled tradition.

In addition, MHS has produced ten 10 WV Gatorade Circle of Champions Players of the Year (2 football, 1 girls soccer, 5 boys soccer, & 2 girls basketball) and 4 Kennedy Award winners in football. Pony Lewis Field is also the home of the nationally recognized MHS Red and Blue Marching Band.

“Pony Lewis Field has been the site of some of the greatest individual and team performance in the state’s history.”

Twenty years ago, boosters from MHS and University High School joined forces in Project Mohawk to upgrade this tired facility in a more multi-use facility. The improvements helped, but only served as a “band-aid” in place of the much needed complete renovation of the entire complex. Year round, thousands of athletes use MHS’s facilities 7 days a week, which use has run down the playing surface and al the surrounding facilities.

To continue the tradition of excellence at MHS, a new fundraising project is underway- “Honoring the Past, Building for the Future.” This $6 million campaign to renovate the athletic facilities at MHS includes a new multi-use building new and renovated bleachers, new concession building, state-of –the-art field turf, new lighting, a new scoreboard, new fencing, and related facility improvements. This new athletics complex will truly honor all of the great student-athletes that have built and continue the Mohigan tradition.

“Honoring the Past,
Building for the Future”
